What is a Mazda3 i Sedan with a salvaged title worth?
Question by axudi: What is a Mazda3 i Sedan with a salvaged title worth?
At a local small car dealership they’re selling a mazda3 i sedan for 8999 they dropped it to 7,400 for me but it has a salvage history and I really think it should be less but I love the car. They showed me pictures and everything of the car’s damage of why it was deemed “salvage” it was the front bumper that got damaged that they repaired them selves (they also do auto body) they offered to let me get the car inspected my third party mechanics and other auto body shops for reassurance that the car is in good condition and the Kelly Blue Book suggested retail price is 10,905 which is of course assuming a clear title and so forth. They also showed me a carfax which is what I’m assuming they’re getting their price from that states the car is worth -550 of the value. If the car clears out at my personal mechanic and auto body shop is the car still only worth half of 10,905? or would I still be getting a deal if it was around 6k 7k what would you guys suggest? I want a deal but I don’t want to screw anyone over in the process or myself.

The big issue with previous salvage cars is the quality of the work.
But, even cars that were rebuilt quite well are worth roughly 50-65% and you would find that out if & when you went to trade it in.
I spent many years as a car dealer and watched a lot of previous salvage cars go through auctions. Buyers do not line up to bid on them, believe me.
And often sellers want more than 50-60% of wholesale so often, the cars do not sell.
Now, on 00 cars, previous salvage doesn’t mean as much.
On a ,000 car, it does.
You should be aware if you are not already that a previous salvage voids ANY remaining manufacturers warranty.
if you want to find out what the car is really worth….take it by carmax and ask for a written cash offer.
It will be low. Then use that price to get the seller to come down more.
You cant expect to buy it for what carmax offers but you don’t want to pay more than 00-1500 over their offer.
The difference between their offer and what you pay is the wholesale to retail spread or “profit” for the seller.
You may not be able to borrow on a previous salvage and insurance will be higher .
They CAN be decent buys in some cases for some people aware of the risks.
No rebuilt car is going to be as safe as one not wrecked.
You probably need both a body man and a mechanic to check the car out. That’s 2 different fees.
