i was pulled over and my car towed. i had gotten my new plates and registration after doing all requirements for a salvaged vehicle i bought. but when i didnt get the pink slip i had my husband check with the dmv. they said i need to come sign a paper and i would get it mailed. so a few days later i get pulled over and of course my husband has my registration and the insurance card is just expired. even though i said just let my husband bring me the registration and current insurance card, because i had an attitude (the cop said) my passenger in the cop car heard. “she has an attitude, if i can im towing her car”. well after going through my entire car and taking my license plated for evidence they towed my car. apparently the dmv didnt finish entering my information for my registration. i spent half the morning getting a moving permit cuz i had no plates and 300 to get my car out of tow. can they do that just because they want to. all because the dmv messed up on their end why did i have to pay the price and who pays me back for a clerks mistake?

they also searched my entire vehicle and totally made a huge mess. i never gave them permission to search. dont they need permission. can i file a complaint against the police department?

The Officer was acting “in good faith” with the information he had available at the scene. You may have recourse to get some funds back, but the Officer was in the right regardless of his attitude or yours. If it is worth your time take your documentation to the court date and present it to the judge. Be sure to treat the judge with more respect than you did the Officer or you may find your butt in jail for “contempt of court”. The judge may find in your favor, in which case you will recover some or all of the tow fees and citation fines.

Remember, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
