Question by Dave Kang: I am buying a car from a private seller, is this legit?
This is a reply I got from my mail. The omitted parts are by me.

Hello and sorry for delay,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing my (“I omitted the car name”)
with (omitted: xxxxx) miles and a clean title. First of all I want to let you
know that the car is available, it’s in perfect working condition, has
been properly maintained, never been abused or involved in an
accident. I have decided to sell it for 00 and the buyer will
receive it with all the papers and receipts that he needs to register
it so if you buy it you don’t have to worry about the paperwork. If
you decide to buy it you will have 5 days to inspect the car after you
receive it. The car is located in a warehouse in Kansas, ready to be
shipped.

It was my husband’s but unfortunately he can’t enjoy it anymore as he
died last month. I’ve moved to Liverpool, United Kingdom at my parents
house. Me and my 4 years old son will spend few months here trying to
recover from the loss of his father. I don’t want to offend you, but
the car is priced for a quick sale, so please, if you intend to apply
for a loan or financing do not reply to this message!

If the car is only worth 00, then it may be OK.

If the car is really worth a lot more than 00, it’s a scam, and a popular one at that. I’ve seen something like this on craigslist.com a dozen or more times, and the car for sale is usually worth 10 times or a hundred times the asking price.

The next email will say “Send me the money, and I’ll tell you where to go to pick up your car.”

Don’t get fooled.
