I was in an car accident have some curious questions?
Question by William Mabry: I was in an car accident have some curious questions?
Have some questions on a car accident I had yesterday. I bought pretty much a brand new car 2007 Suzuki Forenza black 57000 miles in brand new condition still had the new car smell. Paid 750 down and 950 dollars in sales tax. I was driving on my way southbound down a street when a lady northbound was trying to park in her driveway. She dipped across the street and tboned me. An off duty cop witnessed the whole and she was cited. Fortunatley she had insurance and was willing to submit a statement to her company with me there. Her insurance company has accepted full responsibility for the damages of the car. I put a lot of money into this car not to mention i missed a lot of work because of this. It is at a body shop right now. Im curious how they determined total loss.
The tow driver said he didnt think there was a lot of damage to be considered totaled. She hit me on the drivers side wheel. Basically probably about 10-15 mph. I have side impact airbags none were deployed. The wheel and tire are flat. The door front left quarter panel and bumped will have to be replaced as well as the headlight assembly and windshield resoviour. Also the inner wheel well also. I don’t what mechanically was damaged but i suspect the half shaft brakelines and all components on that side will have to be replaced. The ACV of this car is about 8000 dollars i suspect 4 to 5000 in damage. I have gap coverage which pays this off if it is totaled. It was driveable to get on the truck. It just sucks i put all this money in it if i cant get it back. Couple of questions.
Do you think its totaled?
What happens if it is and do I have an option to keep it?
If it is repairable how long does it take for something like this to get repaired. I figured 2-3 weeks?
The body shop i picked is a dealers body shop. They warranty their work for life so if 5 years later i have problems related to the accident they can fix it. I was trying so hard to take care of this care of this car. Fortunately it hasnt snowed yet and my mom is leaving out of the country for a month so no need for a rental car. But with xmas and newyears around the corner that leaves about 10 days of actual shop time available in the next 3 weeks.

As far as an insurance company is concerned, if the car costs more to fix than it is worth it is totaled. Doesn’t sound like this is the case; there’s about a 3k-4k gap between the repair bill and the ACV. It is highly doubtful they will total the care unless there is some hidden damage that raises the bill.
Yes, will take about a week to two weeks of actual work.
